Our clients expressed their desire for a unique forward-looking contemporary home whilst retaining the character of the existing farm buildings.
Situated on an elevated site near Kilrea, this contemporary replacement dwelling cultivates the sites by allowing existing conditions to inform the house’s form and construction. Site restrictions and our want to keep the existing venacular stone element meant the deisgn would be in two blocks, one for sleeping and one for living with glazed dining zone acting as a double height link. The sleeping accommodation was inserted inside the old stone building with two bedrooms down stairs with a main bathroom and two ensuite bedrooms upstairs. A simple pallet of materials have been used, Iroko windows with butted glazing joints, rheinzink cladding to the roofs and white smooth render to the walls creating a contrast with the existing stone. The house is heated with a ground source heat pump and underfloor heating, it also boasts 'i home' wiring thoughout.
