The residence is composed of two rectilinear forms. Externally this house tends towards a natural palette of materials, the curved structure is covered in cedar shingles, the walls are white render and stone, the windows and doors are hard wood timber and the mono-pitch roof of the garage is covered in natural slate. Detailing is precise but embellishment minimal seeking a sense of connection with its rural roots. This new country house is not a statement but a subtle and sensitive form of expression, a home which represents the past and the future
The two connected volumes allowed for the creation of a spacious and light filled home with many visual surprises, an adventure in volume and proportion. The dwelling has a multi-functional fluid interior where a dialogue is established between open-plan areas and more intimate enclosed retreats. The residence is entered where the two forms meet and is positioned as to protect if from the prevailing wind. The entrance hall acts as the principle space around which all others are orientated. To the north of the entrance area lie the master bedroom, main bathroom and three further bedroom one with en-suite are arranged over two levels. To the south of the entrance, the area covered by sculptural curved roof comprises of four main free-flowing spaces for relaxing, food preparation and dinning. Above the northwest clear storey glazing will capture the late evening sun washing a warm glow onto the curved ceiling bouncing the evening light into the living areas below.
